Conspire on Livejournal: [info]bonobo_conspir [info]lebwog_feed [info]matts_puzz

All this month, Krakow has been revealing what really happened to the Avro Arrow (sequence starts here), and I've posted a new, related, voting incentive too. Read this important chapter of Canadian history today!

#357: The lessons of history

Sun-Moon: What is "Macrovision"?
Matt: An innovative furry pornography TV show, years ahead of its time, which Playboy TV considered airing in the 1987 program season.

Matt: After a series of threats from the FCC, they dropped it from the line-up at the last minute, and copies of the pilot episode are now valuable collector's items.

Sun-Moon: Really?
Matt: No, but the actual definition is quite perverse, and could offend our readers.

From my days of messing with various disc-image-mounting programs on Windows (Linux makes it dead easy, of course. I mean, how else could you do it but mounting it? Windows on the other hand...) I should've gotten this one off the bat. As it stands, I had to look it up on Wikipedia to get the joke.

What surprised me was that it didn't seem to diminish much my perception of the wittiness of the comic. It might be the difference between having someone explain the joke to you and taking the time to educate yourself to get it.

Or I might just be weird...

On reading the Wikipedia article just now, I thought of that weird one-pixel black and white line we see along the top of the screen in CTRL-A's setup sometimes; the one for which we always have to adjust the vertical position setting on the projector. Do you suppose that's Macrovision-related? I always thought it was just weirdness on the part of the projector.
