I had lunch at Subway today. Last time I did was several weeks ago, and in that time, they've upped their prices considerably. As of today a 12-inch "Subway Melt" sandwich combo with tax comes to $11.62. That's more like what I would consider a reasonable price for a similar-sized meal in a real restaurant, not something on the level of Subway. So I figure that A. inflation sucks, and B. I won't be going back there soon.
Quickie reader poll: I need to spend some time working on non-school projects for my sanity, but I also can't afford to spend much time on such things because of my other commitments. Which of the following items do you think would be most valuable?

Things are done a bit differently in Trollivia.

Umm, how would the lovely LEO have even seen Altair at 99+%c? By the time the photons had registered on her retinas he(?) would have been a couple of thousand kilometers away. Add reaction time of 200-300 miliseconds and the time required to say "Stop" and that's a few hundred thousand more, which would be several low orbits of this planet which has a theoretical circumference of 40Mm (40K Km) in ideal meters (the original definition of the meter being one millionth of the distance from the Equator to the North Pole on the meridian through Paris).
Hey, I'm catching up on the archives, which takes a while. One good thing about using sprite based comics is the writing is the hard part and the strips can be churned out by the hundreds when the juices flow and then queued up to run daily. That was a touch of brilliance, Matt.

Several different explanations:
Altair is composed of various subatomic particles which according to some approximate models are individually traveling at a fair fraction of the speed of light.
Alternatively, Altair not only violated speed limits, but also accelerated and decelerated very suddenly and severely, which might be interpretable as additional violations of motor code.
Altair is mouthing off to the traffic control officer and exaggerating the severity of his violation, in an attempt to get his likely punishment upgraded to OOGA BOOGA.

You know, in Mexico the officer would have offered to let you give the money to him and he would go down to the station and pay the fine for you to save you the trip. Yes, I have been offered this and had little choice but to accept his kind offer. It happened last year in Tijuana.
