Went through the same process as most of you.
Ordered a whole bunch of DVD's a few months ago - and one of them actually arrived.
The other items from that order still haven't.

I ordered a boxset ages ago (about 3 months ago), before I saw this stuff about DVDSoon. About 2 weeks ago they sent me an email saying that the Boxset is in stock and they will take the next 72 hours packing it and ship it off. Now I've checked again and it has changed to 'Shipped', but unfortuntely I have found that my package has one of the "PP317..." tracking numbers. Looks like I too have been screwed :( Any Australians gotten their money back off this lot?

OK, here's a little update: I went to their Montreal address, that is 276, SAINT-JACQUES, Office 815. Just like MOI said, this is their accountant's address. Nice building in the old Montreal. The guy whom I spoke to was kind but had obviously no interest in answering to my questions. Like many accountant, he knows who he is doing business with, but as long as he gets paid, he doesn't care. I assume he charges around $90-$110 an hour for his services (my wife herself is an accountant, so I know that range is correct).

I checked on Maptuit.ca and it seems the address 30 de l'eglise, in Longueuil, doesn't exist. I wasn't able to find it either with Canada411.com (whereas the Saint-Jacques address is identified as valid).

I guess the only thing I can do is to follow MOI's advice and go to their Boucherville address. However, I wonder in what way it could help. I mean, these guys know what they're doing, and I'm knocking on their door to say... well, I don't even know what I would say, but whatever it would be I'm not sure how it could bring something positive. I guess I'm trying to find some good reasons to go there 'cause Boucherville is at 20km from Montreal, and I just don't want to waste my time (it's not like going downtown).

Thanks in advance for your answers (especially MOI and Matthew S.).

In looking back through my shipping history with DVDsoon back to June 2004, the postal tracking number was a 9 digit number with a PP at the beginning, the nine numbers, then a CA at the end. The sequence back in 2004 began with a PP40 and then became PP50.
All nine digit numbers. The bogus PP317's of recent are now 10 digit numbers as opposed to the stuff that gets through which is the current nine digit PP50 numbers.
It would be good if a canadian mate could check with Canada post to see if the PP17 10 digit number is a genuine postal tracking number as oppsed to all the legitimate ones that are only 9 digits.

Hi Guys,

I'm from Australia and have the same story as all you. had almost $300CD in orders last year foolished placed more orders after the fact that actually cam with out problem up till end of Feb. 2 orders went missing. i moved house in the mean time and thought maybe redirection had not been good enough but when in my new home i received other orders up till April 19th(Walk the line 2disc). Weirdly i have had 3 or 4 orders shipped and received after that date but again i stupidly placed orders on May 27th & 28th. All were in stock. nothing until June 17th when i get an email saying they are in packing blah blah blah dvdsoon bullshit etc. i am still awaiting the arrival of these items. Credits on the other hand have been odd. Requested and recieved back om april 30 refund of $105CD but requested a $195CD on april 9th never received and a $147 on May 8th never received. I'm currently on the website trying to obtain the tracking numbers for the recently shipped items but it is extremely slow. I will post any progress

I've had well over $1,000 stolen from them.
On June 23rd I placed orders for a bunch more as I learned that I had refund credits for most of what was stolen. Every Item I ordered was in stock but none of my 10 orders have yet to ship.

Nivea from 203.206.229.243 at Tue, 04 Jul 2006 00:59:50 +0000:
And Ben they never will arrive if they from the normal catalogue. On the small list in their Super Special column ever arrrive.Note the postal tracking number when you see your account and they say they've shipped whenever. If it begins PP317, do chargebacks straight away.

I bought from DVDsoon 52$, they say "available" DVD but two months after, I cancel the order (too long!). They charge me 2,12$ for cancellation, but I can't reach them and I never had problem with them before... Right now, I don't have my money (around 52 $ cnd) and lost 2,12$ in cancelation. I fill in the credit refund a long time a ago and I'm waiting. If time is running after us, it's better acting now. 2006/07

If someone have advice, please let me know ms4567@hotmail.com

Maybe I've been lucky or something? I placed an order the 2nd last week in March/06 for the following items: Adventures of Superman Season 2, Alien Nation Season 1, The Twilight Zone Definitive Season 3, Moody Blues Live at Montreaux 1991, King Kong 2005 Special Edition, and received them ALL.

Then, on May 4/06 I ordered King of the Hill Season 6, Dinosaurs Season 1 & 2, 3rd Rock from the Sun Season 4, and Beverly Hillbillies/Petticoat Junction Xmas Collection...and received them all except for the Hillbillies disc (still pending).

On May 25/06, I ordered 12 items from their "super special" list plus one inexpensive item from the regular list. I had the "super special" items in less than a week (less 1 item that was missing but showed shipped...I've filled out a "missing item" form and faxed it to them). The 1 regular item is still on pending.

I placed another order for 8 TV box sets on June 7/06, which are still showing "pending". Based on my past experiences, I have no reason to doubt that they will eventually show up. Like I say, maybe I've been lucky, but it's hard to believe that they would be allowed to stay in business if absolutely no one was getting anything from them.

Obviously, they seem to have more problems than other online outfits...but maybe my post can give you all a flicker of hope. Trying to clean up past junk while trying to fill new orders can't be easy...maybe if they had some breathing room to try and get ahead of things, who knows? Everyone needs to judge their own situation, though. Good luck.

Those that do receive items need to list the postal tracking number. The common denominator in all is those that begin PP50 get through, those with PP317 never show.

FredH from 142.154.164.65 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 00:38:35 +0000:
The tracking number for the last package I received shows as:
Tracking Number: 397733100xxxxxxx (16 numerical digits)
None of the tracking numbers on any of my orders start with a "PP". Another mystery??? I don't think the cheap shipping method they use with Canada Post would even include a tracking number. I doubt if it has any relation to Canada Post whatsoever...maybe an internal company tracking number of some kind?

Nivea from 124.168.24.109 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 02:00:50 +0000:
Fred H,
Go to the invoice in your account page for the title you received and see the postal tracking number listed. It will start PP. I suspect your reading a number off the package.

artemisia from 207.194.61.98 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 03:41:58 +0000:
I think you'll find that for customers within Canada, the tracking number is as described by FredH. All of my packages have the same sort of tracking number.

For international packages, the tracking numbers have a different format. Take a look at the examples on the Canada Post website:
http://www.canadapost.ca

Select "track a package". There are some examples on this page, but go to the bottom of the page and find the link "Click here to view more examples". On this page there are examples of international tracking numbers.

As far as the domestic tracking numbers they provide, yes, you can track the package on the Canada Post website. They are real Canada Post numbers -- I just tested with the last package I received from dvdsoon.

I hope that helps, or at least provides some more leads to follow! :-)

FredH from 142.154.165.132 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 04:11:34 +0000:
Nivea: The actual physical packaging is long gone. The tracking # I quoted is what is listed on the DVDSoon website for that specific order, as "artemisia" confirms above. I guess I've just never had occasion to use the tracking numbers before.

I received a reply from the Office de la protection du consommateur du Québec (OPC) regarding my complaint about DVD Soon.

According to them, the Quebec Consumer Protection Act does not apply to my situation, as this type of online transaction is considered a "remote-parties contract" which is deemed to be entered into at the address of the consumer (see Sections 20 and 21 of the act). In other words, as I (the consumer) am a resident of Ontario, the contract is not considered to fall within the jurisdiction of the Quebec act from a civil point of view. I have not yet contacted the Ontario Ministry of Government Affairs, Consumer Protection Branch, to see if it falls within their jurisdiction and processes. It seems to me rather complicated for all of you "victims" out there to figure out where you stand from a civil perspective.

What is NOT complicated, however, is how to deal with DVD Soon from a penal (criminal) perspective. OPC confirmed that I have taken the proper step in filing a complaint with the RECOL. Essentially this is a police organization mandated to investigate matters exactly like this. Therefore I would once again encourage you to file your complaints with RECOL and to report this "advance fee scheme" that DVD Soon appears to be perpetrating. Taken together our individual complaints stand a better chance of getting noticed and actioned.

www.recol.ca - Reporting Economic Crime On-line

One last thing: Stop buying from DVD Soon/DVD Import already! Shop from reputable vendors such as Amazon.ca, CDplus.com, etc.

Matthew Skala from 129.97.79.144 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 16:40:15 +0000:
If it falls under the jurisdiction where the buyer is located, that would seem to mean I could sue them in small-claims court here in Ontario, and in English, instead of having to travel to Quebec. That would be a very valuable piece of information.

I may really fight for the right thing, but not if the system is against us. I call my credit card company, can't do anything for me since it's past 3 months... I'm going to try with my bank. I sent a complain to "la Gendarmerie royale du Canada" about DVDSoon. I really think this forum will help us, since the credit card campany guy was surfing on this forum and direct me here. Like my answer was here. Maybe, who knows? I feel really desapointed about Québec province laws. This is the province I'm born and if they don't protect citizen, they should do something four our international friends that have less ressources then I have.

B-man from 192.197.178.2 at Wed, 05 Jul 2006 19:34:12 +0000:
To Matthew Skala:

You may want to contact the Ontario Ministry of Government Services, to see how your complaint fits within its consumer protection legislation and what processes/measures are available to help you. Their contact info is as follows.

Consumer Services Bureau
Ministry of Government Services
250 Yonge Street, 32nd Floor
Toronto, Ontario M5B 2N5
Phone (416) 326-8800
Toll-free (800) 889-9768
Fax (416) 326-8665
Website www.mgs.gov.on.ca
E-mail InfoMGS@mgs.gov.on.ca

Personally I don't plan to pursue my situation with them, as I've been able to recover my $$$s through my credit card company (i.e., no outstanding civil matter). In the case of the Quebec government, about the worst they could under the act do is help a consumer recover his/her losses, fine the vendor, and make some records public. It would be interesting to see what the Ontario government could do.

Hope you've filed your complaints with RECOL, though...

Hi all!
I'm just one of the many who made the mistake to order from DVDSoon. I guess my credit card company will give me my 54.98CAD back, but still I'm pissed at the company and at myself for being such a big sucker.
My Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection was allegedly posten on June 17th with the PP317 shipping code.

James Sheridan from 59.167.181.36 at Thu, 06 Jul 2006 15:37:50 +0000:
I'm sorry to say that I to am a victim of these blood-thirsty e-pirates. But being from Australia I hold less hope than most for recovering my $547CAD. You see we have 90 days to loge a credit claim with our banks, but it took longer than that to declare the orders as missing... fortunately my bank seems to have come to the party and is investigating. But i'm not optimistic.

Here is a synopsis of my situation so far:

I placed three orders with DVDSoon, for a total of 18DVD’s in February (12th) and March (6th & 18th). These orders were billed at the time of ordering (13 Feb, 7 Mar, 20 Mar) but took approximately one month to allegedly ship (6 Mar, 19 Apr, 19 Apr). The fist order was incorrectly billed under DVDImport (another part of Canadian Distribution Services), while the other two orders will billed under DVDSoon. According to the store’s ‘Terms and Conditions’ shipped orders take approximately 6-8 weeks to arrive in Australia and will not be declared as overdue until the maximum shipping time has passed.

At that time (1 May), I began emailing DVDSoon to request an investigation into the shipping of the first order, as it had not been received within the specified date. After repeated attempts to contact them by both email and phone, all with no response, I initiated contact with my Bank to investigate the matter. In the meantime, the second and third orders were partially shipped and received, with the remainder of both orders allegedly shipped at a later date and now also overdue.

Specifically there are three transactions to be investigated:

13 Feb 2006 DVDImport.com Montreal CA Frgn Amt: $271.94AUD
07 Mar 2006 DVDSoon + 1 4492992 Boucherville CA Frgn Amt: $92.13
20 Mar 2006 DVDSoon + 1 4492992 Boucherville CA Frgn Amt: $145.69

Of the second order, $64.27 is still outstanding. Of the third order, $43.70AUD is still outstanding. The total amount of the first order is also outstanding, leaving a total of $379.91AUD unaccounted for. For the three orders that are still outstanding, it is important to note that I did not receive any kind of shipment confirmation via email, which is the normal procedure. For all orders that have been actually received, there was a shipment confirmation email sent. This leads me to believe that the stock was never sent.

I have also included additional material relating to a number of other outstanding matters relating to both DVDSoon and DVDImport (i.e. Canadian Distribution Services). One credit of $9.98CA for a missing DVD which dates back to July 28 2005 which is still pending investigation. Another, a credit refund request on 27 Apr, which has still not been acknowledged for a total amount of $132.63CA. This was for orders that were cancelled by them, but not refunded to my credit card. The third relates to a debit of my account on 20 Apr, for $25.21CA, from DVDImport, although there were no orders placed at or around that time. I have repeatedly tried to contact them all with no response. Based on these matters there is an additional $167.82CA also outstanding, bringing the Grand total overall to $547.73.
A very Expensive mistake...
I would like to know if foreigners can lodge complaints to RECOL??

FredH from 198.103.223.52 at Thu, 06 Jul 2006 16:25:23 +0000:
I've noticed a few people mention extra "mystery charges" showing up on their CC's. Make sure that your order is set to "no partial shipping" at the bottom of the page. If it's set to "partial shipping", then they send the items to you as they get them, and the free shipping doesn't apply, I think. You may be getting charged for the partial shipping, since the free shipping only applies if the entire order ships at once. Just an idea, though...

B-man from 192.197.178.2 at Thu, 06 Jul 2006 21:04:28 +0000:
To James Sheridan:

Sorry to hear that you were stung too. I would encourage you to try lodging a complaint with RECOL; I don't think foreginers are prohibited from doing so. The whole complaint process is online, so you've nothing to lose by trying. In filing my complaint, I point out how this problem was international in terms of "public interest." Your complaint would help substantiate my assertions. Good luck.

Just called VISA for some more info...it might be of interest for others. VISA International gives 30 days to the merchant to actually send the stuff to you, so as a customers there is nothing you can do in the first 30 days.

After 30 days you can call your VISA agent and explain the situation. VISA will then communicate with the merchant (or TRY in that case) for them to proove you have receive for goods, which they will not be able to do obviously. Then when the merchant is unable to do so you WILL be refund for the total of the amount and then VISA will take that amount from the vendor. I asked if they were certain to get their money back and it seems that for a vendor to be able to process order with VISA, the vendor have to provide a certain amount of money, VISA simply take money from that account in that case. So with VISA, wait 30 days and you will probably get your money back.

Surprisingly, the dude at VISA never heard of DVDSOON before...maybe its because I was with a french agent from Quebec, and I guess I was expecting to not be the first to call about DVDSOON, especially since DVDSOON is in Quebec...

Michel from 198.103.249.251 at Fri, 07 Jul 2006 19:26:27 +0000:
ANDRÉ, WHEN YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK from Visa, did you asked them after 90 days? I could not get my money back since the date I bought my DVD and the date I called them was 3 months and something. Was it the same for you? I wondering if the 90 days is really necessary... Thanks

Well, I probably should have checked on the web first - but I fell for DVDSoon's cheap prices... I placed four orders with them in late May - which all remained "pending" forever. Then I suddenly got a "packaging" notification and the orders were switched to "shipped" in my account a few days later (around June 16). However, I did not received a shipping confirmation mail and the orders all have the (apparently dubious) 317 tracking numbers.
What I find most annoying is that DVDSoon hasn't replied to any of my 6 emails over the past 6 weeks.
So my questions basically are: Has anyone received any reply to an email lately? Has anyone ever received an order with a "317" tracking number? If not, I guess I'd better ask my cc company to initiate a chargeback right away.

Hi,

On July 4, I mentionned that I received an email that one of my DVDs was in packaging. This morning, I received an email saying that it was shipped with a tracking number: 39773310xxxxxxxx. I received the DVD this afternoon ! It has the same tracking number on the enveloppe than in the email.

It has shipped from:
9127-8572 Quebec Inc
27A Rue de Lauzon
Boucherville QC, J4B 1E7

I live in Laval, about 45 minutes from there.

I am very curious to understand what is the story behind all these frustrations.

Sure wish I searched this Scam company out before ordering in late MAY, but got sucked in by the cheap prices on harder to get movies.Well it has been over a month and still says pending for a movie that is "IN STOCK" I have sent about 12 E-mails and low and behold have gotten no response. Imagine that!!!!
Well I guess its time for a chargeback. Strange how some people get their orders but most don't. DO NOT BUY FROM DVDSOON.

FredH from 142.154.165.6 at Sat, 08 Jul 2006 05:03:19 +0000:
It's hard to say that "most don't" get their orders. Is it possible that most DO get their orders? If someone gets their order OK, then they would have no reason to search out and post on a website such as this one, since they would be a happy customer. Most people posting here are unhappy customers with complaints, so it seems like a large percentage...but maybe it's actually a small percentage of their total customer base. I'm not trying to minimize anyone's problems...lord knows I've been ripped off online before too. But without knowing their total customer base and number of orders that DO get filled properly, it'll be hard to gather proper stats to present to anyone. It's like the sites where people complain about car problems with specified models...there's still many people with the same model cars who never have the same problems. It's a tough thing to pin down...

olzolz from 24.37.108.165 at Sat, 08 Jul 2006 19:20:10 +0000:
I remember a study that shows about 10% of unsatisfied customers officially complain about it. Knowing that this website is not an official place to file a claim and knowing that customers who get a refund by their credit card company have no real interest in looking for blogs or forums to talk about it, we could assume we represent at the most 1% of the unsatisfied DVDsoon.com's customers, and certainly less than 0.1% of the customers who bought for thousands of dollars of DVDs and CDs.

One thing is sure: there are way too many people who lost money and also time: time to search the DVDsoon.com catalog, time to send them e-mails, to check and re-check your account information day after day, time to call the credit card company, time to look for relevant blogs or forums, time to leave a message on these, etc.

I put in all the info., & when I got to the last page & clicked on "place order", I kept getting: "unknown error from payment system, please try again later 37". I e-mailed them 3 times & got no answer, then I tried to call the phone # on the site.Guess what I got? "I'm sorry, there is no service for the number you have dialed." This made me curious enough to do some googleing about this company & I found this forum. I guess it was just luck on my part that I couldn't place my order. Good luck to everyone who was taken advantage of. I wonder if a class action suit would work.

Hi all,

Great site, I only wish I had discovered it before shopping with these fools. My biggest disgruntle is they charge your credit card well in advance of sending goods. Six weeks on, they finally ship part of my order and charge additional shipping fees to cover the split. Over three months have past and I am still waiting on goods. I am now outside the 90 days chargeback period and they refuse to respond to my attempts in communication. BEWARE!

I placed an order Jun 1 for 71.92CAD, received order confirmation Jun 2. Usually I would google before ording from a new site, but someone at my work had used DVDSoon many times before so I felt secure ordering myself and didn't do my usual pre-order google checks. Order pending...pending...pending.... (during which time I googled & found this site.). So I e-mailed them 3 times to find out what was going on. They e-mailed back June 17 after my 3rd e-mail with an "order payment confirmation' and the order status online had changed to 'packaging'. (This may have just been an automated e-mail looking back, not necessarily in response to my e-mails, as it was just signed by the 'DVDSoon team' and not by anyone in particular.) It said the order would be shipped in 24-72 hours and that a shipping confirmation would be sent at time of despatch. 4 or 5 days later the status changed to 'shipped', but I received no shipping confirmation, and they have not replied to another 2 e-mails sent 5 & 10 July. I lodged a dispute with my bank/credit card supplier when I first found your website. Made me feel better knowing they had the complaint registered, and I could just cancel it if the goods turned up. My order has a PP317... tracking number, so I too, like Stephan above, would love to know if anyone has received a delivery with this tracking number prefix. I too don't understand why DVDSoon are allowed to continue to trade if they are simply not supplying any (or even some) orders. It's really odd, as they don't seem to be completely dodgy, but if they're completely honest and just overwhelmed for some reason, why don't they send out a global e-mail to all people with outstanding orders explaining that they are working on a backlog and for everyone to be patient? How recently did anyone order and actually receive an order? Would love to know. I notice someone said the website was down about a week ago. I noticed that too (Judy, above, may have been locky and tried to join on that day) - it was really slow logging in for a while, and then down altogether and I thought it was finally the end for this very strange retailer, but no, it's back up & running like normal.

Also, FredH who wondered if it just seemed like DVDSoon had big problems, and maybe loads of people are getting their orders OK....it's good to hold out hope, and these are valid things to raise, but for the following reasons I don't think this is a normal level of unhappiness or just the usual random stuffed-up orders that any retailer has.
- It's not normal to charge your CC before shipping (although if you end up with your order in the end, that's failry easliy forgivable, if alarming)
- It's not normal to not reply to e-mails
- It's not normal to have goods in stock and then not ship them for weeks, with no advice an no apologies for any delays
- It's not normal to use tracking numbers that (apparently) don't exist
- It's not normal to clear people's points, remove their refund credits, charge extra things to their credit cards, all without explanation or apology.
- It's not normal to not answer calls to any of the phone numbers you list on your website

At the very least, they're hopelessly disorganised. Even that could be forgiven if it didn't cost other people good money. Some people have definitely lost money that has not been made good, so even if they're only 1 percent fraudulent, they're fraudulent. Maybe they have a business model that funds the discounts on everyone else's orders by just not supplying 1 percent of their orders!

Having said all that, I'm still e-mailing them (fairly) politely, but regularly, and hoping somehow that my order my be one of the ones that eventually, magically just turns up.

These guys are classic scam artists like the telemarketers who scam the naive with bogus investments. After they take off with your money, they come back the second time offering to recover your money for a fee. In this case, you can earn your "credits" lost by buying more stuff from them. Imagine that....They ripped off the consumers for thousands of dollars and now they go back to them again to sucker them out of thousands more dollars.

After I got the email from them offering a credit refund on new orders. They were quick with the email reply when I asked how the whole credit system worked, but I didn't like the idea that you only get the credit after the order was placed and paid for. I didn't really trust them so luckily I only order 2 DVDs and did receive them after a whole month, but kiss the credit goodbye....it's been three months now and no replies to any emails. DO NOT ORDER FROM DVDSOON NO MATTER HOW ATTRACTIVE THE PRICE LOOKS!!!!

I've used this company for several years now and had no problems up until 2 months ago when my orders stopped arriving. usually I take into account that air mail from Canada to the UK can take a few weeks sometimes but after 2 months and no responses to my emails I realised that something was wrong. It would also appear that they have reduced their prices to entice even more people to order and be ripped off. I sadly fell for this and ordered several more titles about a month ago. I dont understand why there is this sudden break down and still foolishly believe that they will come thru but I guess from the comments on this page that isnt going to happen. Im interested to know more about the charge back option mentioned and how this works. if any one has more info on how I do this then please let me know.

@ Jon: As so far I haven't found anyone on any forum where DVDSoon is being discussed who has actually received an order with the "317" tracking number, I have actually now initiated the chargeback process with my credit card company. They were quite nice and helpful: I just called their hotline (usually that number is on the back of your card) and they told me to fax them a brief description of the case together with the credit card statement the DVDSoon charges appeared on. With Mastercard you have up to 6 weeks after the date they sent out the credit card statement (not the date the charge was made) to file such a chargeback claim. As my statement was from early June I was in that time period. They told me that they will now immediately contact DVDSoon (who is an official "partner" with any credit card they accept on their site). The merchant then has up to 3 weeks to reply to the allegations and prove that they have shipped the merchandise. If they fail to reply or to provide such proof, the credit card company will charge the merchant's account and reimburse the customer. However, they did say that this doesn't work if the company is bankrupt at the time - so I would actually file that claim as soon as possible. I have a feeling that DVDSoon may go belly-up quite soon...

Just looking at the 'Careers' section of the DVD Not-Soon-Enough website (desperation...there must be a clue to the mystery of the missing DVDs somewhere in the website....)
...maybe all these vacant positions explains why orders are not going out! I'm amused to see that each description includes "Must be capable of working under stress." I bet they darn well must be at the moment.
Customer service: "Tasks: Answer [or NOT!] diverse queries and questions from clients via the Internet (e-mails) and by phone. Ensure follow-ups of client cases." Hmmm, wonder why the last person quit??? Let's hope they employ someone soon....! Some of the positions require the applicant to be "capable of respecting deadlines", but unfortunately for all of us they do not require this of the Shipping Clerk....

I noticed in June the excellent prices and trusting them again ordered around £180 (gbp) worth of films. Its about 15 seperate orders. All but 3 have shipped, only 2 orders have arrived, both ordered last and came within 7 days of ordering, tracking number is 504 etc, all earlier orders with 317 not received. I sent a number of emails without reply but i soon as i question order status it quickly changed to packaging etc. Im not sure what to think and based on past dealings still hope they may come. I've also been hit by the changes at DVD soon. I've been a regular customer for about 5 years now and have always had excellent service. My last two orders though have apparantly been "shipped" but they never arrived.

The total I have lost is $90 - such a scam!

How come they are still operating and how can the claim that something has been shipped, when clearly it hasn't?

Yes, I actually find the fact that they totally ignore every single email most annoying. I have inquired about my orders about 10 times. No matter if you send mail to orders@dvdsoon.com or info@dvdsoon.com, there is never any reply.
As I said, even though all my orders have been marked as "shipped", I have now asked my credit card company to initiate the chargeback process, especially since all shipments have the ominous "317" tracking numbers. Doing this will probably lose me 90 dollars in credits and "rebates" that I have with DVDSoon - but I am risking that, as I'd probably never see that money anyway.
I would advise everyone to do the same and chargeback now. This company cannot be trusted (any more).

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: EVERYONE NOT SURE ABOUT DVDSOON.COM SHOULD READ THE FOLLOWING.

For those who don't know me, I'm the one who visited DVDsoon.com's accounting company, which is located in the old Montreal. See above to know what came out of it. The only address that is mentioned in every legal information about DVDsoon is the one in Boucherville, on De Lauzon street. If you guys remember, that's the address you see on every package you received. Also, someone well-informed (called MOI: see above) confirmed to me/us that it was the address where we had a chance to meet our friends (that is Eric Guiard and Vincent Lesaux).

That's what I did today: 27A De Lauzon street in near highway 20 east. Well, folks, they left... Nobody is working there anymore. There were obviously working activities in the past, but none today: there's an iron fence behind the door (which is closed) and even the chairs have been removed from the offices. They did not even bother to close the blinds, so I had no problem watching inside. No chairs, no phones, no employees... and no DVDs. An employee from another company told me another looser like me, sorry another customer came about a month ago and faced the same situation. Unfortunately, she could not remember if she had ever seen someone working there.

What's happening now with DVDsoon.com is exactly what happened last year: they don't have DVDs to sell 'cause they are not buying any. I bet they don't even charge our credit cards now (how many of us have an order which has been pending or in packaging for the last few months).

However, there's something funny: within the last two weeks, I made two orders of their PROMO DVDs (I had nothing to loose because I had $100 in credits, which I would have lost anyway) and got the DVDs within 3 days each time through Express mail. Even if the stickers indicate 27A De Lauzon street, I don't believe the packages were sent from there. As I understand, the PROMO DVDs are the only ones they have in stock now, and that's the reason why I got them. However, I don't advice anyone to buy them, except if you have some credits left, in which case you loose nothing (or so little) trying. Don't forget I leave in Montreal, which means they have much less to pay for shipping to me than for a buyer in Europe or Australia.

Regarding their job offers, I think it's either a joke or they plan to do once again what they did last year.

The conclusion is obvious: DON'T BUY FROM DVDSOON.COM BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST ANYMORE.

The DVDSoon.com website once again seems to be down. This happens quiite a lot. I do hope that it will survive a bit longer, as my credit card company did say that chargebacks are more problematic if the merchant has gone bankrupt.
They still don't answer emails, but someone must be working there still, as the special offers, pre-orders, etc. on their site are still being updated.
Well, one day the DVDSoon story might be written and we all might know what exactly happened. Hopefully, at the end of this story some "protagonists" will be in jail.

Thank God I chanced on this site!!I am just relieved to realise that I'm not going crazy. After years of happy spending at dvd.soon, I have been chasing an order since FEBRUARY. I was starting to think that I was being rude and unreasonable. They were smarter with me: they listed it as lost, and after the requisite 6 weeks (I'm an Australian customer), had me fill in a replacement form. By the time I realised my 8 dvds had gone to consumer heaven, too much time has passed for me to hassle Visa.

I placed 5 orders with DVDsoon on 2nd June, all items were "In Stock". I too was drawn in by their very cheap prices, especially on the TV boxsets. I spent around £70 UK pounds.
Only 2 days after placing my orders I had trouble accessing their website and I stumbled upon this site by mistake. I wish I had known about this site sooner, but it was too late by then.
I kept checking my order Status, and my orders were in "Pending" for almost 2 weeks.
I sent an email to enquire about the delay in despatching my orders. I never recieved a reply.

Then on the 17th June I recieved a batch of emails per order to notify me that my orders were now in "Packing" and should ship within the next 24-72 hours. I was alos informed that a shipping notification would be sent upon there departure.
I never recieved the notifications.
My orders were in "Packing" for a week and then they were finally listed as "Shipped".
I checked the Tracking numbers and all 5 of my orders begn with the PP317 tracking number.
I have now waited a month since they were supposedly shipped and they have still not arrived.
Usually in the past with DVDsoon my orders would normally arrive within 10 days.

Today I decided enough is enough and have phoned my credit card company and explained to them the situation. They are now investigating one of my orders.

The remaining orders were purchased using my debit card. I had to go into my bank and they filled out a claim for me which tey told me will take about a month to investigate.
So now I have just got to wait for the bank and my credit card company to sort things out.

Also, I did cancel an order with them (also on June 2nd) and it was issued as credit on their website. I then requested the credit be refunded to my credit card. Their website informed me that it would take 21 days to process. Well, it has been well over the 21 days now and still no credit showing on my latest credit card statement.
This has been reported to my credit card company.

Now everything is in the banks and credt card company's hand and hopefully I will get some or all of my money back.
I have learnt a valubale lesson here and will never use DVDsoon again.
Stick to the trusted companys like Play.com or amazon.com. They may cost more but a least you get the goods.

How, exactly, does one go about ordering something by using the rebates and credits sitting on your account. I tried ordering a couple of the "super special" items, but even though I had enough total credits and rebates to more than cover the total cost, it wouldn't let me order without a credit card number. Is there anywhere to check to say "use my credits and rebates for this order"?

olzolz from 24.37.108.165 at Tue, 18 Jul 2006 06:44:03 +0000:
To FredH: no, you can't ask the system to use your credits and rebates. When you pass your order, your credit card is not charged even though you're asked to enter its digit numbers: at that point, your order is classified as pending, and if you click on it in your account, you won't see the rebates and the credits. When your order is in the packaging stage, that's when your credit card is charged: if you click on it in your account, you'll see the credits and the rebates which have been used to pay for the order. Don't forget you'll always have to pay for the taxes. As soon as your order is pending, click on it in your account to deselect the partial shipping option, which seems to be by default now (I don't think it was like this last year), otherwise you'll pay more for the shipping.

I was a happy DVDSoon.com customer until 2005. They cancelled orders on me then and wanted me to use up my credits (due to their failure to honour the contract) at 25% per order. (I don't need to repeat what's already been said above about that other than I judge that as extortion). Then... no replies to my emails until the take-over email and that suckered me into buying something to get my credits built up so I could apply for the credt rebate. I filled in the on-line form, and it did not end like a normal debit invoice, my credit balance went from $30+ to $0, with no monies forthcoming needless to say, and that's the last I have had to do with them. I have never seen such blatant incompetence in a business before, or such total ignorance of customer service. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Regarding the time-frame for lodging a disputed transaction with your credit card provider - this may help some:

If you've lodged a Replacement order(due to non-arrival of the original order), and allow for the 6-8 weeks delivery time cited by DVDsoon, your credit card provider should still accept your request for a charge-back, dating from the time you lodged the Replacement Order Request.

I placed an order in December, 2005. It was supposedly shipped on January 26, 2006(PP317 tracking number!). I lodged a Replacement Order Request on May 3, 2006.

Contacted Visa on 20 June who suggested allowing the full 6-8 weeks (from May 3) for delivery. I emailed DVDsoon several times to check on the status of the order - replies = nil(what a surprise!).

Contacted Visa again and lodged Disputed Transaction Report 18 July. DVDsoon has 30 days to respond.

Unfortunately, I think most of us are likely to "do our dough" but at least we (collectively) may be able to prevent these shysters enjoying their ill-gotten gains.

Hope this may help somebody. e.g christine r.

I'd like to nip this confusion in the bud...

DVDsoon has not been "bought by another company" any time recently. In December 2005 they claimed to have been bought out by "Canadian Distribution Services". As discussed above, there may be some doubt as to whether that's really a separate business from the original DVDsoon, or just basically the same people trying to run out on their debts. They don't even claim to have been bought out a second time.

Last order I received at home was posted Apr, 4. 2006 and arrived within one week. Since then several orders were sent and charged to my credit card, but none of them arrived up until now. I have replacement requests for orders from Apr. 18, 2006 but there's no way to check status. When I check my sent orders I see all my info is there, except my country (which is pretty necessary if you want to receive it in Europe). No replies on mails sent to info@dvdsoon.com yet ...

Previous shipments (with PP504 tracking) number did arrive fast and smooth.

I ordered from DVD soon a few weeks back. They have swiped my card twice and cancelled several items. The items that were left on order, well i finally got a packaging confirmation email with the tracking number starting with PP317, but no shipped confirmation. Looks like i've been duped as well. There is no way i can get my money back as i paid with a debit card, i'm also living in the uk, so i'm stuck really. I've tried emailing them but they won't answer me. I've lost about £50 - i know it's not the end of the world, but i hate to think that this is happening to a lot of people, and yet this company is still up and running, so it people will continue to get scammed.

I also used a debit card when I purchased five orders from them on 4th June.
I never got the orders although they have charged my debit card.
I took my bank statement into my local bank and they have filled out a claim which they told me will take about a month to investigate. So there is still hope of getting something sorted out with your bank.
I suggest you go into your bank and give them as much information as possible to try and get your money back.

Lea from 195.93.21.106 at Thu, 20 Jul 2006 19:16:13 +0000:
Regarding "Credit Refund" requests.
I placed an order with these crooks on 31st May. I included the first class Airmail at $5.98 with my order. They charged my credit card straight away for the goods and postage.

On 1st June I decided to cancel the order. Later when I checked my account status there was the total amount showing as credit.
I went through the request credit refund process on their website. I entered the amount in the box and pressed enter. I did not receive any email from them to confirm my refund request.
Later again I checked my account status and there was no longer any sign of my credit or the request that I had made. It had vanished without any trace.

I have waited well over 21 days now and there is still no sign of the money credited back onto my Visa card.
I checked my Visa statement and it is only showing the charge for the original order + postage.
Further down the statement I noticed that the cheeky bastards have charged me an additional $1.98 (£.99p) cancellation fee.

I have reported all this to the credit card company but they said there is nothing they can do about it as they need to see proof that I requested the credit refund from DVDsoon.
But I have nothing, no email, no nothing in the account page on their site to indicate that I ever made a request for the credit refund.
THIEVING CROOKS!!!!

My credit card company need something to go on.
Originally they did say that they could pursue my claim as "Non Receipt of Goods", but as I have cancelled the original order (ref/ the cancellation fee also showing on my statement) I may have to take the hit for this.

Lea from 195.93.21.106 at Thu, 20 Jul 2006 19:26:24 +0000:
Forgot to mention.
The order I cancelled on 1st June isn't even displayed on my account information page under the "View Cancelled Orders" section.

So, I can only proove to Visa that I cancelled the order because of the Cancellation Fee on my card statement. But their is no way of prooving the Credit Refund request that I made.

D from Oz from 199.181.130.5 at Fri, 21 Jul 2006 02:54:15 +0000:
I decided not to try and cancel my order as I did not want to give the rogues any further excuses to go poking around my credit card. As I had already spoken to my bank I knew I needed to be able to show them all the details of my order and attempts to contact them. From what Lea says above I am really glad about that.

I would recommend you get in contact with your banks ASAP and find out what you need to supply them with and make sure you have all the documentation you need before the web site goes down forever. Make sure you e-mail DVDSoon several times to enquire after your order (and save the e-mails), as you need to be able to describe & show the attempts you have made to resolve the issue with the merchant.

My bank (who supplies my Visa to me) is sounding very straightforward about refunding me. The DVDSoon website quotes 6-8 weeks shipping for international, so they have calculated 8 weeks from the date I placed my order (June 1), and then will refund me after that (July 28), and will seek to contact DVDSoon for their own refund purposes. So they said I should expect a refund within 7-10 working days from now. I hope it's as simple as they are making it sound.

I asked the bank how DVDSoon can continue to keep trading if so many people are claiming back orders never sent and they said it is DVDSoon's financial institution that should be stepping in and making sure they stop trading, as they are the ones that will be making these claims good ultimately.

So I wonder who DVDSoon's financial institution is and why they have done nothing?

Does anyone know a journalist in Quebec who could do some background research & get a story up in the mainstream media?

I have been dealing with DVDSoon since 2002 & had no problems utill May 2006 when I cancelled an order then went to reorder another dvd then discovered that my account was not credited from the cancellation as it had done on another occasion. When I checked my account the order that I had cancelled was not in the cancelled orders part of my online account as it should have been. The cancelled order totally vanished leaving the only evidence as a order email & a cancellation email & a Visa bill. I sent several emails to them explaining my prediciment but had a receipt to say the emails had been deleted without being read. I also had 2 other orders in the pipeline which they emailed to say they were sending but as yet have not arrived. Funny thing is that earlier in the piece a few years back I purchased some DVD's from DVDImport & 1 never arrived which they would not do anything about resending or reimbursing. So I emailed them I would not buy anthing from them again. Then lo & behold they buy out DVDSoon & stuff up a perfectly good company. So those thieving sacks of S@#!S owe me US$108.65!!!!!!!

However, an order I placed in late April never shipped and dvdsoon.com never replied to my e-mails. Then I came across this website. I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. And, as mentioned before, the cancelled order vanished... I wanted my refund and filled out the form on their website. But I have still not got my money back! And e-mailed them about this but has still not got any answer. I hope that this will come to an end soon and that people can get their money back.

From early 2004 until January 2006 I was a happy DVDSoon customer. My only complaint was that it sometimes took weeks before an order was despatched. But the orders did come through, and I was very pleased to get many DVD's unavailable here in New Zealand. However, an order placed in October, which was shipped on Jan.26th has failed to arrive. Yes, it does has that 317.... tracking number. Thinking that this order may have come "surface mail", which can take up to 9 weeks getting to New Zealand from North America, I waited until May before attempting to contact DVDSoon. I have sent e-mails, faxes, and two copies of the Replacement Affidavit, but all is silent from DVDSoon. I usually receive a weekly newsletter, but there hasn't been one for the past couple of weeks. Has this company finally folded. The web site was still running this morning, so this scam sadly is probably continuing to part people with their money.

I refer to John on July 25 and experienced the exact same situation. Taking the suggestion from several people on this forum, I filed a report with Reporting Economic Crime Online (RECOL.ca). (I have contacted the head office of the bank in Canada. Not much use perhaps but they will pass the info to the branch.)

I had a look at this site: http://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/publications/dep_05_droits.asp
but found it a bit hard to navigate as an English speaker (some areas of the site are only in French) and overseas consumer (it gives a 1888 number to call for a complaint form. Don't think that works from overseas).

Please consider also filing a report with Recol. You can file online. It took about 10-15mins. I feel as if my less than 80CAD loss is a small fish in their pond of fraud complaints, but maybe they will take notice if they get several complaints.

As far as we can tell DVDSoon continue to take people's money -
Lea mentions an order placed June 4, Juiceman, Eleisha & Rod mention orders late in June by inference.

I'm wondering how recently DVDSoon has put charges through on people's credit cards? Anyone been charged in July?

I am finally fed up with DVDSOON. I lost $200 last year with the bankruptcy of DVDSOON. I was enticed back with the promise of recovering my lost money with their new policy of rebates in early 2006. So I ordered some dvds in January and February 2006 and I actually received them; some of them within weeks of ordering. So far, So good. Then I order a tv box set in mid-April. Well I havn't seen it yet. I think a lot of customers are having trouble receiving orders placed in April for some unknown reason. So, I let the April order slide because I know DVDSOON is slow in shipping it orders. Then came the last week of May, when for some reason, most of the dvds were selling at half the price of Amazon.Ca. Well, I foolishly placed 5 orders worth a total over $250.00. Guess what, I still have not got a single one. They are all in the Pending Section. I have sent emails but have no responses. I finally realize that I will never see the dvds after reading this web site. So, I started the chargeback procedure with my VISA company, who will send me a package of documents to deal with in 10 days. I won't be getting any money for the April transaction because it was too long ago.
Another problem is the credit refund, which you are supposed to apply for and they will credit to yor credit card within 21 days. I applied for $90.00 on June 1 but have not seen it on my credit card statement. Where did it go because there is no record of it anywhere; no email, nothing.
My advice to customers of DVDSOON is to get chargebacks as soon as possible before the time limit for chargebacks expire. I'm sure the time limit varies with each credit card company.
Also, get your documentation from DVDSOON before the company go bankrupt and the site closes. I've already notice they are not sending anymore promo emails in the last couple of weeks.
I guess I've learned my lesson and I've lost my $200.00 rebate from last year.
Don't let the low prices fool you, it's all a scam. With such low prices, how can they make money? I doubt they have anything in inventory, even though it says in stock. In stock where? In another company? Another country?

I heard about dvdsoon from a guy I used to work with and made my first order from them in May. No problems - received it in less than 3 weeks. I made two orders in June to the value of $260 aussie dollars which i have never received, both with the dreaded 317 tracking number. No response to emails, but as both orders are within their 6-8 weeks timeframe I will wait a bit longer before I go through the visa process. I will send a few more emails in that time, but not give them any hint I am about to lodge the VISA dispute.

Thanks again...and I hope as many of you as possible get your money back

Yeah , same story here . I initially ordered 2 titles From "Soon" back in May 06 . I cancelled them in June and re-ordered them as the prices had dropped . I issued myself a "credit refund" to my Visa which , after 2 months never arrived . I contacted Visa and they refunded my money . The re-ordered titles were supposedly sent to me 3 weeks ago but there's no sign of them and the website is currently down so I can't see the tracking number . BTW I had one outstanding item with DVDImport as well which , after 2 months was misteriously sent out on the same day as the DVDSoon items . Coincidence or what ? The Import website is also down so it looks like I'll be contacting Visa again shortly . All in all looks like a big con to me .

I have finally initiated the chargeback process with my credit card company. It was actually quite a hassle, as they wanted order confirmations and printouts of all "correspondence" I had with DVDSoon.com - in other words all my emails they never replied to. But hopefully this will work, so I might only lose the 51 CAD I had in "credits" with them (which after a "refund" in June have simply disappeared, as with everyone here) and the 40 CAD I had in "rebates". I am not entirely sure what will happen if the company by now is officially bankrupt. Hopefully, the credit card company will do a chargeback even then.
@ Steve: I actually threatened them with a chargeback in every single (unanswered) email I sent - I doubt they even read a single one...

So I got onto my Credit Card Company yesterday (Dublin, Ireland) and they initiated the chargeback process. The guy was very nice but I have to send off a letter detailing the situation and attach any emails/correspondence. He said it will take up to 30 days for a credit so hopefully....

I have lost about $400 CAD to DVDSoon.com, which is about $800NZD. The first few hundred was before the big breakdown and was lost from the whole credit thing. The rest is from a whole lot of DVDs that I have not received since January this year. After emailing them many times for a few months, and awaiting the 8 week period for non received items, they finally sent me the form that I filled out, faxed, scanned and emailed them numerous times. I have never had any sort of responce from them, and no longer receive the weekly updates. My brother-inlaw has also lost about $300 through the same method. I doubt we will ever see that money again. I even out read receipts on my emails to them and some woman named Veronique Vincent (vvincent@cdscanada.com) just deletes them without ever reading them. With the amount of bad word against them, it amazes me the Canadian Police or someone has not looked into all this.

I've been a dvdsoon buyer since nov 2003 and have purchased over 120 orders to this day and at this time have lost 6 items(2 recredited, 2 not claimed for - less hastle & 2 in rma) with 5 items still waiting on arrival since shipping after 16th june 2006, but i have also had 2 items arriving inbetween those dates.

I was hit badly when they claimed to go out of business losing around $1500 aust and had written it off due to not being able to say what orders the money was from to chargeback to.

I recieved an email in feb this year that money was put back into my account as rebates, being a big buyer using this wasn't a problem to me, and in spending and getting my dvds my credits increased.

I have recently asked for over $900 as a credit refund only doing this in the last couple of days.

I've only just found this site and have read all the postings and will not order from them until my problems are cleared up/ or not, but i find it strange that in my ordering since they say they have changed hands that i may be the only lucky person to receive all my shipments but my trouble has just started since jan this year but in that time i got 20 out of 26 orders bought.

i would like to know how someone does their chargeback on orders that have partialy shipped and arrive but the other items when shipped don't as the money has been taken out from the original purchase how do you charge back the remainder.

dvdsoon was the best site in the world in my view as i have been around looking for a while and to see so many bad postings, i should have seen the signs from their no email replys and limited answers to my easiest of questions.

good luck to all

@ Anthony: I am surprised to hear that they apparently still "operate". Soemone must actually process these orders and make these "phantom shipments". Very annoying - they are still stealing people's money - I really wonder why no one is doing anything against this, not even their financial institution.

I got a call from my credit card company confirming that they would do chargebacks on all my dvdsoon orders from May (all supposedly "shipped" on June 15 and 16 with the ominous "317" numbers). And they said that there have been hundreds of chargeback requests against this company - mostly successful, as they cannot prove that they have shipped any of these items - so you'd expect their bank to do something against them and inform the authorities.

The good news of course is: Chargebacks do work. The only thing they cannot do anything about is that "store credit". So I'll write off 90 CAD in rebates and credit and will avoid dvdsoon in the future...
