Tarot spread generator

Sat 14 May 2011 by mskala Tags used: , ,

After a decade on the Web, as of February 2018 the Tarot spread generator is moving to a new domain name: edifyingfellowship.org. Along with this change, a number of new features are being added to make it more compatible with current Web standards (mobile devices, encryption, etc.), and a new Wiki has been created on that domain where we can all share interpretation ideas and other lore.

Bookmarked links may still point to the old version in the short term, but all URLs for the old version will eventually be redirected.

The card images used in this system are scans from the edition of the Waite deck published in 1909 that collectors call "Pamela-A," and they are public domain in Berne Convention countries. See John B. Hare's comparison of the Pamela-A deck with another popular deck.

Very nice. The back button was fun too - one has to hit it as many times as there are cards, and each card reverts to face-down position in reverse order until the last is re-turned and one comes back to this page. I like that.

Lovely, easy. Straining my memory as to the route, but the card knowledge is still sort of there, after many years. Thank you for making this available!

I use this thing a lot. I even give my friends readings with it. It's almost as good as having my own deck, and the benefit over that is not having to shuffle or pick up. I really appreciate having it available.

How did you create this in terms of computer programming? I want to do an online deck on my website, where someone can think of their question and then click on the deck, and then one card arrives...(the right one!).

I am NOT a programmer, but I have wordpress and was wondering if it was a plugin you used? Thanks for any info...

Leaf: it's custom PHP, probably not something you can create for yourself if you're not a programmer. However, if you just want to do a one-card thing like you describe, you can probably achieve it with less complexity than what I'm doing. Many Web site builders (I'm not too familiar with Wordpress in particular) offer some kind of random-text plugin; they may call it a "fortune" thing. On each page load it shows a randomly selected item from a list. If you make all your items be identical pictures of the deck with a link to another page, and then have 78 pages for the different cards, then when the user clicks on the deck, they'd end up going to a randomly selected card page.

Is this code for the Tarot readings available to use and/or for purchase? It would be fun to be able to use it on a Wordpress site
